It was a Saturday in June. The meadow was alive with green as a team of Jenny and Bil’s friends were working to transform the grounds of the Amherst Center for Renaissance Studies — an academic institution where Bil studied and worked — into a beautiful and sacred wedding location. A string of old photographs of their family and ancestors, to honor those who came before them. A huppah decked with summer blooms, to symbolize the home they would build together.
When Jenny and Bil arrived in that space for their ceremony, they met as equals. They laughed together, and they cried together. Through it all, they shared a sense of deep strength, their ceremony as much an acknowledgment of the past they had shared as a covenant for the future they were walking into.
We were humbled by their love, their honesty, and their commitment to one another as they spoke their vows surrounded by their friends and family. And we were honored, as ever, to bear witness.
